     The traditional Thai New Year is an occasion for celebration throughout thecountry. This occasion is marked with religious ceremonies as well as public festivities. Water throwing among the people in  spirit of fun and good will is the main activity if this festival.Recommended place to go and celebrate

  Central Region
        1. Bangkok Songkran Festival, Sanam Luang and citywide
            (April 12-15)
           - Khao Sarn Road, Banglumpoo area is also one of the high
             -spots in the city to experience the water-throwing activities
             between locals and tourists.
        2. Pattaya Festival, Pattaya Ciry, Chonburi (April 12-19)
           - enjoy food and floral floats, beauty pageants, stall selling
             delicious cuisine and a spectacular display of fireworks on
             the beach

  Northern Region
       
1. Cheing Mai Songkran Festival, The Pae Gate and citywide (April 13-15)
           - a variety of religious and fun related activities conducted along with
             parades and a Miss Songkran beauty competition
        2. Sukhothai's Traditional Buddhist Ordination Ceremonies at Amphoe
            Sri Satchanalai, Sukhothai  (April 7-8)
           - a spectacular procession of young men in colorful costumes of
             elephants proceeding to Wat Hat Siao where they will be ordained
             as monks.

  Northeastern Region
       
1. Phanom Rung Fair at Phanom Rung Historical Park, Buri Ram
            (April 5-6)
           - overlooking a spectacular panorama, Phanom Rung, an impressive
             Khmer temple dating from the 12th century, is adorned with
             ornamental stone carving, performances of local entertainment
        2. Dok Khun-Siang Khaen Festival at Bueng Kaen, Khon Kaen
            (April 11-13)
           -  the locals pay homage to revered Buddha images and shrines,
              offer food to monks, as well as perform a variety of traditional
              Northeastern folk entertainment and other exciting activities.

1. Thai Heritage Conservation Day & Shadow Play Nang Talung-Nora
            Festival at City Hall, Phattalung (April 2-15)
           -  the unique Nang Talung shadow play, Southen style Nora dance,
              local food and products competitions and sales, demonstrations
              of local arts and culture
