Liverpool arrive to 'fantastic' reception , Houiller says entire squad will play Tor Chittinand and Roger Crutchley Greeted by throngs of cheering Thai fans, English Triple Cup champions Liverpool rolled into Bangkok yesterday and promised they would take tomorrow's match with Thailand's national team "really seriously."The team were whisked from the planeside at Don Muang Airport
to the Merchant Court hotel where more than 1,000 fans gave them an ecstatic welcome. The squad had flown in from Singapore where they had beaten the national team 2-0 on Monday night in a match where they seemed affected by the humidity. Although the team is packed with international stars, it was Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler and skipper Jamie Redknapp who drew the biggest cheers-or rather screams-from their young fans gathered both inside and outside the hotel. At the press conference both players and management said they were delighted with the reception they received. "Absolutely fantastic," said Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry, "the players really appreciate it." He added that the club had closely followed Thailand's performances after they had trained at
the Liverpool Academy. Manager Gerard Houllier also received a warm reception from the knowledgeable crowd. Houllier said he was very impressed by the welcome his team had received. "When you see the enthusiasm of the fans it makes it worthwhile. The players really want to play and do well for the fans," he said. The Liverpool manager said he would play all the team tomorrow. "I want the Thai fans to see all our players. That's why we are here," he said, adding that he also wanted to get all his team match-fit.Talking about fans, Houllier said it was a "funny situation" when his players went out onto the pitch in Singapore. "We were playing the Singapore national team and there were 48,000 people in the crowd yet 47,920 of them were cheering for us,.
" he said. Houllier said that although the Liverpool players plan to enjoy the game tomorrow they would still take it "really seriously. It will be more difficult than last night's match (against Singapore)" he said. Having signed only one major player in the off-season-John-Arne Riise of Monaco-Houllier was asked if he would be getting the cheque book out. "If we need new players we will look for them," he said. "But at the moment I have faith in our players. We have the foundations of a strong squad."In a reference to recent big spending by main Premiership rivals Manchester United and Arsenal, Houllier commented: "The fact that other teams are spending a lot indicates they think Liverpool will be a strong force next season."Also attending the press conference were skipper Redknapp, Fowler and Sami Hyypia. Redknapp, who has been plagued by injury and missed the entire season last year, said he was eager to get back into action and earn a regular place in the first team. Fowler said he hoped to sort out his contract with Liverpool soon and negotiations were currently underway. "It looks very promising. I am very happy at Liverpool and I have never said I want to go anywhere else."Fowler is no stranger to Thailand, having spent a vacation here three years ago. "I think Thailand is a fantastic country," he said. "We had a very warm welcome. It is a great feeling for the team."After the press conference, the three players joined the rest of the team training at Rajamangala National Stadium in the evening. It turned out to be a relaxed session in front of several thousand fans who appreciated the good humour shown by the Liverpool squad, especially when Michael Owen clowned with a toddler who ran on the pitch in the middle of the session. The Liverpool players are due to hold a football clinic for some 100 Thai youngsters at the Suphachalasai Stadium today at 11 a.m. and will take on the Thai national team tomorrow at Rajamangala National Stadium at 6.30 p.m
